How do we handle hardships in life? How do we handle the stress of times of waiting? What do we do when we are overwhlemed and stressed from work, chores, responsibilities, and more?
Let's go on a journey together with our Bible study on Having Faith in Hard Times. Grab your Bible, notes, favorite drink, and let's get started.
In this verse it talks about faith as small as a mustard seed. I remember when the pandemic started. There was a lot of unknowns. I remember feeling worried about my family and students. From this, I have learned how imporatant it is to take care of your health. We need to take care of our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Think about what you are going through right now. Even the smallest of faith is important. We can thank God for taking care of us. We can have faith, even as small as a mustad seed, that God will provide and take care of all of our needs.
Matthew 19:26 shares "Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
This verse can bring us hope. I remember when I first got married, and we were living on one income. The Lord showed how He can do the impossible. He provided. Think about what you are going through right now. Close your eyes and remind yourself that with God all things are possible. Take a deep breath. When life is hard with work, chores, responsiblities, and more, we can remember that we are not alone.
Philippians 4:7-8 shares how the peace of God will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. It goes on telling about what we need to think about. We need to check our thinking. We need to think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. This is harder to do sometimes. I know when I have many tasks coming up like report cards, events on the weekend, chores at the house, and more. I get overwhelmed. Check out below of a poster that I made so that I can see it each morning when I wake up. This reminder helps me to remember that it can be easy to get caught up in an overwhelming to do list. It can be easy to feel discouraged...but we have hope. The peace of God is offered to you and me. We need to remember to call on Him. Thank Him. Praise Him. Then watch how He will move in your life.
Wow! After I read this verse, I had to write down one word- Powerful. When we turn to the Lord, accept His Spirit to guide us, we have freedom. It doesn't say we could have freedom. It says in verse 17, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." If you are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, sad, angry, you can have peace in your life. I want to encourage you to set aside even 5 minutes in your day to pray. I remember when I had some days that were hard. I texted my friend to pray for me. I knew I needed His peace because it can pass all understanding. There are some points in our life when we get angry if someone has hurt us or feeling left out. We are human. We are going to experience different emotions. It is how we handle them that is important. I want to encourage you to read these verses. Look at verse 18. As Christians, we have the Spirit in us to help us through these different emotions. He is our Helper. He is our Comfortor.
When I first wrote this verse down, I wrote verse 10. But then I read the verse before it, and it was just what I needed. Psalm 9:9 shares, "The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble." Wow! I remember from the Covid lockdowns that I could feel fear. I was worried for my family, my students, and our nation. Do you remember the grocery stores? Do you remember the aisles that were empty? Through this, the Lord showed me how He is our stronghold. He takes care of us even when life is around us brings many questions. Join me on this journey of life to remember that we serve God who will protect us and take care of us. We have hope. We can have joy. His Spirit brings joy, love, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control. My friends, when you are struggling with tasks, hardships, overwhelming times, remember that we can turn to Jesus for help. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will work in our lives so that we may help others.
